Sparsh: An interactive multi-touch display project

“Sparsh” is an interactive multi-touch table made by using FTIR techniques. In an 8 week research project, we designed, developed and built a fully functional working prototype of a multi-touch console based on Jeff Hann’s FTIR, with a wide range of software and applications that we were able to run using this new platform.

Did you know there is a Naples Business Networking site online? The site was created by us for a client a few months ago and already it has 74 active members. The nice thing about this site is they perform a background check on each member every year. This enables them to keep only the most upstanding people in the group. You may be thinking “why would we pay to be on a social networking site when there are 100’s of free ones?”. You would really be amazed if you knew how much business is generated off of this site. When a member of this site needs a service or product, they always go here first and send a message to all members.

This is just a heads up really, just bragging a bit about the site and letting people know there is a business networking option for Naples and Fort Myers folks.

One of my first jobs is to help Jay get some ranking for his site. It’s starting off a little slow because his web design company doesn’t want to give up FTP access. So basically, when we need to do something to the site we can’t. Instead, we have to send an email off to the origional designer asking if they will make the change for us. The whole thing is a real pain, but OK, what can you do?

So anyway, Jay has a Naples Residential Real Estate site. He offers real estate services for all areas in South West Florida. So I’ll be reporting back soon after we grab some rankings.

I took a job

I took a job at RT Design this week, I will start on Friday. My current job is still kind up in the air, I’m not sure if I’ll still be working with Dan or not. I guess it depends on how hard his terms will be and what my current employer says. Most of the stuff Dan needs done is national, so it takes much more work and time.

So yea, I’ll be moving to Naples on Friday and starting work. I’ll be staying at a condo for a couple months until I get my own place.

I decided that JWP could be more than a previous employer

I realized that JWP Cabinets, my old employer where I finished cabinets and did SEO, is going to be a fantastic tool. At one time, a couple years ago, JWP had first page ranking for ALL of the terms in our niche. During a business meeting on Tuesday with a client I mentioned that a little Naples cabinet company holds a top 10 ranking for the search term “cabinets”. The client was shocked, I suppose after thinking about it, it is pretty impressive. Nothing like seeing a little tiny Naples company snuggled in between major corporations for the main search term.

So anyhow, I haven’t done anything for JWP in a long time and the rankings have taken a hit, but not too big a hit. We still rank great for most of the keywords, some are even still on the first page. The “cabinets” term is at #13, even after all this time of no maintenance. So, I am going to get JWP back on the main page for “cabinets” and use it as a great little tool to show clients.

So how is everyone?

The site is still running off the default WordPress theme, as some have pointed out to me in the comments, but we won’t name names!

So yes, the new design is coming soon, just be patient. In the meantime I’m starting to grow fond of my cheesy default skin, how about you? The site is STILL sitting at #2 for the search phrase Naples Web Design, I’m starting to get annoyed now. I realize the site hasn’t even been up for a month yet, but I really didn’t think it would take this long. The Fort Myers sister site has not been as lucky. Everytime it gets a decent rank for Fort Myers Web Design, it loses it. One day it will jump in the search results at #4, the next day it drops out completely. One day it’s in at #3, the next it’s on page 4. I understand everything will be OK eventually, I just hate the waiting game Google sometimes makes you play.
